Catalonia <\/span>has<\/span><\/a> \u201cwon right to statehood,<\/em>\u201d as results of a plebiscite vote for independence from Spain \u2014 declared illegal and banned<\/a> by the Spanish government \u2014 preliminarily but decisively show no less than 89 percent enduring <\/span>brutal police violence<\/span><\/a> to declare support for the cleft from current rule.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn this day of hope and suffering, Catalonia\u2019s citizens have earned the right to have an independent state in the form of a republic,\u201d<\/i><\/strong> asserted<\/span><\/a> Catalonia regional leader, Carles Puigdemont.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy government, in the next few days, will send the results of [the] vote to the Catalan parliament, where the sovereignty of our people lies, so that it can act in accordance with the law of the referendum.\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Guardian<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>other<\/span><\/a> mainstream sources <\/span>report<\/span><\/a> upwards of 90 percent of around 2.3 million voters choosing in favor of Catalan independence, and although the final numbers must still be counted and assessed, conjecture already lambastes Spanish authorities\u2019 response to the referendum \u2014 stifling censorship for months followed by a violent crackdown by law enforcement of polling places, which left <\/span>well over 800 people<\/span><\/a> injured and bloodied \u2014 as responsible for swelling support for the referendum by orders of magnitude over too-close-to-call assessments prior to October 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Puigdemont aptly prognosticated, <\/span>\u201cpolice brutality will shame the Spanish state for ever.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>
